ROLE meeting in Lausanne

March 8, 2009 Leave a comment

Last week I spend 2 days at the EPFL in Lausanne for the ROLE project. It’s really fun when you can talk to people that share the same interest about education and learning. I know that’s the academic world but never the less they are, or could be, the R&D for the business world.

The formal part:

  • the ROLE communication channels
  • listening to Fridolin explaining iCamp
  • Carsten and Kristin explained a bit about how Chinese people are learning English and vice versa. They use tools like VoiceThread
  • the final project launch inc. champagne
  • overview of the different work packages

The informal part:

  • Flashmeeting a tool of the Open University explained in detail by Peter Scott
  • I explained IMAP for writing papers (for different reasons not everybody was enthusiastic)
  • Some people thought I could speak German but it was actually Dutch, they overheard a phone conversation ;-)

Mobile learning.

December 14, 2008 Leave a comment

A few days ago I saw the first effective usage of mobile learning. Last week I was the ROLE GA at the “Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology” in Sankt Augustin Germany. There was a delegation from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and they are actually using their mobile phones for learning. It was amazing to see how the connect to a live video stream from one of the campuses and could interact with the students out there.

Later on the day, when it was night in Shanghai, they even showed us how they could manage the campus room. They were able to turn on the lights and handle the camera and so. This was really amazing to watch.

I hope to get the presentation and perhaps a few videos about it.
