Learning in Three dimensions maybe four
One of the sessions I attended at ONLINE EDUCA 2010 was “Learning in Three dimensions maybe four”.
Session was a bit chaotic due to the failure of the technical setup of de video feed with Tony O’Driscoll in the U.S.
Euan Mackienze had his usual talk about the use of games in a learning scenario. He was very persuading about the use of games in a corporate environment. He introduced the term “Gamification”, you can watch a TEDx video of Jesse Shell explaining this al. He even showed us an ROI example, the way to go if you want to convince the corporate world.
Bert DeCoutre demonstrated(used video’s) the Second Live Academy of IBM. They moved, for this project, from Centra to the internally developed IBM SL platform. The participants were very enthusiastic about this way of learning, communicating and collaborating. Even I would love to give this a try. Bert couldn’t tell us what the budget was for this project but I guess it must be huge.
In the mean while Jay got connected with Tony via Skype and uses his Mac to broadcast to the audience. Pragmatic approach? Yes indeed.
Overall an interesting session about the use of virtual worlds and games in an educational context. Perhaps too soon for the companies that we address but worth while keeping an eye on.
